Specialists land first trade packages at huge Berkeley site

Main construction work started today on an 88-acre West London site where Berkeley will build 3,750 homes on a former gasworks site at Southall.

The Enquirer can confirm the first raft of specialist contractors to pick-up packages on the main build.

Expanded will carry out piling work while Joseph Gallagher Ltd will carry out concrete frame and groundworks at Southall Waterside.

Infrastructure work has been ongoing for two years at the site to clean 250,000 cubic metres of contaminated land.

CA Blackwell has been overseeing earthworks and remediation while FM Conway has been working on site infrastructure.

The development will be delivered in phases over a 25-year period, with the first homes due for completion in 2019.

Berkeley Group chairman Tony Pidgley said:  “Southall Waterside is about much more than buildings or infrastructure.

“It’s about creating a real community where the residents feel proud and people look out for each other.

“This is a really extraordinary site – 36 times the size of Trafalgar Square – and we are going to turn it into one of the best new villages in London.”
