Bid race begins for £20m mega car park

Port owner Associated British Ports is on the hunt for a contractor to build a vast car storage facility in Southampton.

The facility at the Port of Southampton will rise to five decks with each deck around 6 acres in area.

The facility is the 8th and largest of a series of planned car storage buildings being developed to enable the port to handle a greater numbers of cars, which are shipped to meet overseas demand.

A ninth one is also in the planning pipeline.

Six months ago Morgan Sindall bagged multi-deck storage facilities 6 and 7, with capacity for 8,670 car parking spaces, under a £24m contract.

Associated British Ports has decided to go to the market with its biggest facility yet to ensure competitive pricing.
