House builder Countryside has struck a deal with Notting Hill housing association to teamed up to deliver a 911-home scheme within Barking town centre in Essex.
The Fresh Wharf plan will provide homes for sale and market rent across a mix of three-bedroom townhouses and apartment buildings ranging from 6-15 storeys to the north of the site.
Now work on site can start next year with the project set to be completed in 2026.
The concept design proposals for the 11-acre former industrial site in Highbridge Road have been produced jointly by Jestico + Whiles and Glenn Howells Architects.
Mott Macdonald Fulcrum provided designed services engineering and Ramboll UK, civil and structural engineering.
To help kick-start the scheme Folio London, Notting Hill Housing’s private rent subsidiary, has agreed to acquire 157 PRS homes from the joint venture.
The southern part of the Fresh Wharf Estate – former known as Muirhead Quay – has been redeveloped to provide industrial and commercial units.
Graham Cherry, chief executive of Countryside Partnerships South, said: “The site is identified as one of the largest residential sites within the Barking Town Centre Area Action Plan, which makes a significant contribution towards the council’s target of some 6,000 new homes.”
