Materials giant Tarmac has bought £160m turnover regional civil engineering contractor Alun Griffiths (Contractors).
Griffiths, which delivered a £2.3m pre-tax profit in 2016, operates across Wales, the Midlands and South West England will join Tarmac’s Contracting arm.
The respected civil engineering firm, set up by Alun Griffiths in 1968, will continue to operate under the Griffiths name. Tarmac and the Griffiths management teams will ensure business as usual for existing Griffiths customers, with Anthony Morgan continuing as the managing director.
Tarmac said the acquisition strengthened its overall civils and highways customer offer in key markets, and would build upon its existing network of strategic sites, logistics and operations.
Griffiths’ areas of expertise are in highways and bridges, rail, utilities, surfacing, integrated transport, urban regeneration, highway maintenance and water management.
The firm directly employs 700 staff operating out of six regional offices across Wales, the Midlands and South West England.
Griffiths works with key clients in their operating areas. It has delivered major projects, including A483 Newtown Bypass, South Bristol Link, Llanaber/Barmouth Sea Defences and numerous M4 projects.
