Clugston green light for £60m Sheffield IKEA

Clugston Construction has secured a contract to build a new £60m Ikea store in Sheffield.

The Scunthorpe firm will begin the build-out immediately, in what represents the largest retail win in the region of for the £140m firm.

The scheme will see construction and fit-out of a 340,000 sq ft two-storey superstore, which will provide a sales floor, warehouse, staff facilities, a cafe and children’s play areas as well as underground and external car parking areas.

Construction is due to begin imminently and follows the enabling works began earlier this year to remediate the site. The store is due to open in summer 2017.

Steve Radcliffe, Clugston Construction’s managing director said “We are delighted to have been selected to build IKEA’s new superstore in Sheffield. This I believe will be the largest retail scheme we have delivered in Yorkshire and will generate significant opportunities in the Sheffield area for our supply chain.”

Around 300 jobs will be created during construction.
