Costain poaches William Hare project director

The former London project director of William Hare has joined Costain as construction director.

Alex Smale who was Hare’s project director on major London jobs has joined Costain as it gears up to deliver the Hinkley Point nuclear power station project.

Smale worked at Hare’s for three years after joining from rival steelwork specialist Mabey where he was director of its renewables business.

The news of the jump comes as Hare is rumoured to be off the planned 22 Bishopsgate tower in London’s Square Mile, which is still awaiting a decision on whether to go-ahead.

The country’s other steelwork giant Severfield is now the front runner for the job should backer Axa Investment Managers’ property arm decided to go-ahead with the 62-storey tower later this year.
