B&K wins £39m Conwy County Council HQ

Bowmer & Kirkland has won the contract to build a new headquarters for Conwy County Council in North Wales.

The firm is preparing to start demolition at the Colwyn Bay town centre site ahead of construction starting during spring 2017, with completion expected in Autumn 2018.

The proposed new four-storey 95,000 sq ft office building will replace up to thirteen existing offices and reduce the council’s accommodation and carbon footprint.

The council called in Morgan Sindall ‘s urban regeneration specialist Muse as it development partner for the new council offices last year. As part of the arrangement Muse will also redevelop an existing grade II listed civic building to the east of the town, which will form phase two.

Muse has also secured £39m from M&G Investments to finance the construction after gaining planning approval for the AHR Architects designed project in August this year.

Wes Erlam, development director at Muse, said: “This is a great deal for Colwyn Bay, with tens of millions set to be invested into the ongoing regeneration of the town.

“We’re working with Conwy Council to deliver this important development which will help them to operate more efficiently and reduce their carbon footprint by bringing a number of key services together into one energy-efficient and accessible building.”
