Balfour tops contracts league after HS2 awards

The confirmation of HS2 phase one contracts reshuffled the contracts league in August with Balfour Beatty rising to the top for the first time in 18 months.

Fellow joint venture contractor Vinci came in second with Kier, Costain and Skanska all high in the rankings on the strength of £6.6bn of HS2 work.

While Laing O’Rourke failed to secure a high speed rail line job, confirmation of its £1bn Manchester Airport contract levered it into third place among the clutch of successful HS2 firms.

According to construction information specialist Glenigan, Sir Robert McAlpine is now top of the rolling 12-month league of work won by value, shadowed by Laing O’Rourke and Balfour Beatty which both rose up the ranks on the strength of the August work haul.
