Galliford Try has topped the contracts league for September after major housing projects for its partnerships arm lifted its monthly haul of secured work.
The firm secured two big London housing jobs: an £81m project at Barnet Gas Works for One Housing and a £120m residential scheme at Ferry Lane in Hackney for Legal & General.
A £52m student accommodation scheme in Coventry helped take the value of orders secured to £296m.
According to construction information specialist Glenigan, Sir Robert McAlpine is neck and neck with Sir Robert McAlpine at the top of the rolling 12-month league of work won by value.

Among the other big contracts secured last month Multiplex has a £80m job to build 345 flats on Trafalgar Way in London for Essential Land.
Also in London, Wates bagged an £80m retail and office scheme at Wellington Place for developer MEPC.
While in Manchester Carillion, despite its financial problems, signed off a £73m student halls of residence scheme for the University of Manchester.
