Firm wanted for £9m road at Sussex 3,500-home scheme

Housing delivery agency Homes England has started the hunt for an infrastructure contractor to construct a bridge and link road required to deliver new homes in Burgess Hill, West Sussex.

The winning bidder will build a 0.7km single carriageway road with a corridor width ranging from 13m to 19m, and a single span road bridge over an existing water course forming the early infrastructure to deliver new homes at the Northern Arc.

An outline planning application to build 3,500 homes for the 200-hectare site to the north of Burgess Hill site was submitted at the end of last year. with supporting education, healthcare, community, employment and retail facilities, was submitted in December 2018 and is awaiting planning determination.

Ken Glendinning, Head of Strategic Land at Homes England, said: “This is a major milestone for the project as we prepare to deliver infrastructure to accelerate housing development at the Northern Arc.”

This work package is the first infrastructure contract package to be let by Homes England and will be the first of a series of infrastructure work packages let by the agency.
