Private rented housing developer PLATFORM_has got the thumbs up to deliver one of Wales’ first big build to rent schemes in Cardiff.
PLATFORM_ has secured planning permission for just over 200 homes on the site of the former Browning Jones & Morris builders’ merchants premises on Dumballs Road in central Cardiff.
A main contractor has yet to be selected for the multi-block project, which will deliver a mix of one and two-beds, alongside a residents’ lounge, gym and communal roof terraces.
PLATFORM_ will also be carrying out public realm improvements, which include a new public square between the three apartment blocks that make up the scheme. Start on-site is expected Q2 2019, with completion due in Q1 2021.
PLATFORM_’s Cardiff acquisition follows planning permission for schemes in Glasgow and Sheffield, meaning PLATFORM_ will have over 1,000 units under construction this year.
Stewart Knight, acquisitions director at PLATFORM_, said: “There is real momentum behind Cardiff and we look forward to getting on-site and delivering over 200 high quality homes for rent there.
“The site fits perfectly within our acquisitions strategy, being close to the railway station, city centre retail and established offices within a vibrant and growing city.
“We’re actively seeking more sites, looking for opportunities to deliver 200 plus homes in major towns and cities across the UK, and we are more than willing to work with local partners.”
