Brunel University London has called up firms to bid for a £40m teaching and learning building at its Middlesex campus.
The seven-storey facility will replace the 1968 John Crank building on the university’s main campus and is timetabled to be completed in 2021.
Architect Penoyre & Prasad and engineer BDP designed the building, which would form one side of an open quad area at the Uxbridge campus, bounded by the Grade II-listed Central Lecture Block, the Brutalist-style Halsbury Building and the recently over-clad Hamilton Building.
The design benefits from a mixed mode ventilation approach, an optimised facade, ground source heat pumps and a roof-mounted PV array. The facade will consist of mix of glazing and profiled ceramic panels with a translucent glass lantern for the fifth and sixth floors.
Brunel University expects the 80,000 sq ft building to be priced within a £26m-£40m range.
