Bardsley bags £27m Manchester PRS scheme

Developer Mulbury has selected Bardsley Construction to deliver its first private rented scheme in the north allowing work to get underway.

M&G Real Estate is to finance the £28m project to build 135 homes at 97-105 Port Street on the edge of Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Bardsley had been battling it out with John Sisk to sign a 20-month contract to build the eight to 14 storey building, which will be completed in summer 2018.

Designed by Tim Groom Architects, the homes are mainly one and two bedroom apartments, with a communal roof top garden and balconies.

Meanwhile Mulbury submitted plans last week for a second build to rent scheme in Manchester City Centre.

The £35m development of 145 apartments would be built on a 0.24 hectare site at the junction of Blossom Street and Great Ancoats Street.

Plans comprise two separate eight-storey buildings with 49 one-bed, 95 two-bed and just 1 three-bed apartments.

James Alderson, head of Mulbury City, said: “This site is in a great location to provide high-quality city living on the doorstep of the Northern Quarter. We believe it will contribute enormously to the ongoing resurgence of Ancoats as a vibrant city centre neighbourhood.”
