Nottingham City Council has finally started the hunt for a builder to transform the Broadmarsh shopping centre in Nottingham.
The council is leading the procurement as a one third stake holder in the shopping centre with retail developer Intu holding the majority interest.
The planned revamp is expected to cost around £80m and will involve extensive demolition and reshaping of the centre while shops continue to trade.
Planning was obtained nearly 18 months ago for the scheme, where construction is now expected to start early next year on the two-year revamp.
Under the plans the shopping centre will be enlarged from its current size of 44,227 sqm to a total gross lettable floorspace of 120,300 sq m, arranged in individual blocks on three main trading levels.
Martin Breeden, regional director of intu, said: “Our plans for intu Broadmarsh will build further on that progress, bringing new streetscapes, a new cinema and a wider retail and catering offer.
“We have been in the city for over 40 years with intu Victoria Centre and are fully committed to creating something special for Nottingham.”
