Contract awarded for £50m Peterhead harbour expansion

Scotland’s Peterhead Port Authority has awarded the contract for Peterhead Scheme 2 project to a joint venture partnership McLaughin & Harvey and Boskalis Westminster.

The 18-month project entails the strengthening and deepening of the port, land reclamation with revetment, widening of the harbour entrance, demolition works and improved services throughout.

The harbour will also benefit from significantly improved realignment to the existing quay walls and increased draft which will facilitate larger vessels.

Peterhead Harbour’s £50m development plans also include the relocation of existing fish market to the North Harbour.

Peterhead Port Authority plans to deepen the inner harbours and create a bigger fish market

While deepening the harbour, the dredged material will be used to create a 430,000 sq ft reclamation area for future developments, while maximising existing resources and achieving environmental benefits for the scheme.

McLaughlin & Harvey  has worked alongside designers RPS Consulting Engineers to utilise an RD steel piling solution for the development. Developed in Scandinavia, the solution will be the first of its kind to be used in the UK.
