Giant construction site wrap to be turned into tents

The largest building wrap in the UK is set to be recycled into weatherproof covers for family yurts.

The 2,445 m2 banner – which weighs 1,200 kg and is equivalent in size to a wall of fifty buses – is currently shrouding the Colmore Row site in Birmingham where Morgan Sindall is completing a £30m office scheme.

Specialist Embrace Building Wraps is overseeing he removal and recycling of the banner which starts this week.

Solid PVC used in printed building banners is difficult to recycle due to the need to stand up to incredible wind loadings and tensioning.

Embrace has developed its “Banner Karma” initiative which will see the wrap and its fixings used in weatherproof covers for family yurts.

Even the bungee ties will be used to secure the PVC around the yurt frames so that nothing goes to waste.

Greg Forster, MD of Embrace Building Wraps, said: “A simple act such as this is the heart of good building and business practice.

“We fully support sustainability initiatives that result in a positive social impact and environmental outcome.”

“In our environmental policy we believe sustainability is the collective responsibility of our staff, supply chain and our clients.

“Together, we can all put this at the heart of each project we manage, which we hope will leave a positive lasting legacy.”
