Graham wins £33m Strathclyde University fitness centre

Graham Construction has secured the job to build a £33m sports and health facility at the University of Strathclyde.

The university gained full planning in the summer to build the five-storey sport, health and wellbeing facility on Cathedral Street in the heart of Glasgow.

It will include a six-lane 25m swimming pool, a six court sports hall, large gym area and specialist academic space for teaching and research.

Construction is expected to get underway shortly to open in summer 2018.

Arup is acting as structural consultant and Glasgow-based Hulley & Kirkwood the mechanical and electrical consultant on the Kennedy Fitzgerald & Associates designed centre.

The new facility is the latest in a series of new facilities being created at Strathclyde, bringing the University’s investment in its campus to over £600m this decade.

It follows the opening of the University’s £89m Technology and Innovation Centre by the Queen last year.
