Green light for £60m Sheffield student scheme

Developer Brookfield Student Real Estate has gained planning permission to build a £60m mixed-use student residential development on Hollis Croft in central Sheffield.

Designed by Sheffield-based architects HLM the 972-bed scheme of around 400,000 sq ft.

The scheme will also include include commercial space and new pedestrian link along the western edge of the site connecting Garden Street through to St Vincent’s Church.

A new 18-storey tower will become a new landmark in a part of the city designated for tall building development. There will be 251 self-contained studio apartments in the tower, which will enjoy views over the city and the Peak District beyond.

Delia Harmston, Associate at HLM said: “We are delighted that planning permission has been granted for this exciting project which is set to become one of Sheffield’s landmark developments.

“As an international practice with a strong Sheffield base, alongside BSRE who have been investing in Sheffield since 2013, we are privileged to be contributing to the on-going regeneration of our city and to the vibrancy of this new city quarter.

“The purpose-designed scheme will set the standard for student accommodation and will provide much-needed housing for students along with employment opportunities and improved public spaces.”
