Green light for Carillon’s £160m Durham riverside scheme

Plans to build a £160m mixed-use development in Durham have been given the planning thumbs up by the council.

A development consortium of Carillion, Arlington Real Estate and Richardsons Capital aims to deliver 400 new riverside properties and 150,000 sq ft of office space, also featuring an Everyman Cinema as the centrepiece of the site’s leisure offer.

Demolition of the existing building is presently underway with construction scheduled to commence in May 2017.

Carillion is lined up to deliver the scheme, which will sustain around 650 construction jobs.

The major scheme has been divided into three zones which will be phase over several years.

Zone One would comprise the majority of the development, covering the more southern and central parts of the site.

It would include a mix of commercial and non-commercial uses such as 291 residential units, an Everyman Cinema, 12 commercial units and food and drink establishments.

Construction of Zone One is expected take 30 months and while Zones Two and Three would take 36 months if developed simultaneously.
