Ten fire engines and 72 firefighters battled all Tuesday morning to contain a fire at a hotel under construction on Uxbridge Road in Ealing.
The Brigade’s 999 control officers took around 40 calls from worried members of the public after the blaze broke-out at the Ibis Hotel site.
The whole of the roof of the eight storey building was alight and part of the plant room. There were no reports of any injuries.
One eye witness told the Standard: “The fire looked like it started on the roof or the top of the building. It quickly spread.
“The fire brigade, once on the scene, were very quick to act and put the fire out.
“Flames then reappeared but now appear to have been completely extinguished and there are a team of eight fire fighters now checking out all the damage.
“The roof of the hotel looks structurally sound from here as they are walking around on top.”
The hotel is due to open this summer.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
