Developer Select Property Group has got the green light for three new residential buildings in the Greengate district of Salford.
The firm aims to build two 18-storey blocks and another of 16 storeys at Embankment West, the site of the former Manchester Exchange Railway Station.
Warring-based demolition contractor Bagnell UK will now start removing a viaduct structure on site with Murraywood Construction of St Helens carrying out groundworks. Select expects to choose a main contractor by the spring for construction to start in summer 2018.
Two of the buildings will comprise flats, while the third will house 147 serviced apartments under the CitySuites brand.
The development will be the final piece in the jigsaw of the comprehensive regeneration of the southern part of the Greengate Regeneration Area.
It will open up the the area next to Embankment 101 with new green spaces and public walkways, running from Exchange Square and Chapel Street to Salford Approach.
Arcadis-owned CallisonRTKL has designed Embankment West, alongside structural engineer Curtins Consulting and M&E consultant Ridge & Partners. Arcadis is cost consultant for Select.
Select Property Group’s strategic planning director, Michele Steel, said: “With Embankment 101 and CitySuites now open, the whole Embankment area is really starting to take shape so we’re delighted with the decision to enhance the area further and we’re looking forward to starting on site.”
CallisonRTKL director John Badman said: “This development will be the final piece in the jigsaw of the comprehensive regeneration of the southern part of the Greengate Regeneration Area, and is set to become the ‘front door’ of the district.
