Willmott Dixon to build first Passivhaus secondary school

Willmott Dixon Construction has chalked up another landmark school project in the south east after securing a £36m project to build a secondary school in Sutton.

Designed by Architype, the school is aiming to push environmental sustainability, with an ambition to achieve both Passivhaus and BREEAM Excellent certification.

The Harris Academy Sutton 6 form-entry school is part of the wider masterplan for the intended London Cancer Hub situated on the former Sutton Hospital site.

It will offer a broad and balanced curriculum while specialising in science – particularly Health and Life Sciences – and will look to make the most of its proximity to the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Design team includes structural engineer Price & Myers and M&E consultant BDP

It will accommodate 1,275 pupils and 95 staff within a central spine building of the four-storeys, interposed by alternating wings

Works are due to start on site in the early New Year for completion in 2019.
