Skanksa to fight off Kier to retain Cambridgeshire roads deal

Skanska is understood to have fought off fierce competition from Kier to retain its lucrative highways maintenance contract with Cambridgeshire County Council.

Skanska has worked with the council since 2006 but faced stiff competition from Kier when the job came up for renewal.

The Enquirer understands Skanska has won the battle and an official announcement from the council is imminent.

One source close to the tender race said: “Kier threw everything they had at this one and are very disappointed not to have picked it up.”

The latest deal could also last up to ten years and be worth up to £60m per annum.

Work involves maintaining 1,700 miles of carriageway, 1,400 miles of footways and cycleways and 1,276 structures.

The contract also covers a range of infrastructure improvements to junctions, roads and bridges.
