£45m trio of roads for housing projects approved

Highways England has approved funding for three road schemes to unlock development of up to 10,000 homes.

The three roads schemes costing £45.5m will unlock housing developments in Leicestershire and Hampshire.

Highways England is contributing £20m from its £100m Growth and Housing Fund with developers and other public funding making up the balance.

Three funded schemes

• Anstey Lane (A46 / A560) delivering up to 2,378 homes – £5m Growth and Housing Fund, £2.8m private developers. Promoter Leicestershire County Council.
• M1 junction 23 delivering up to 4,000 homes – £5m Growth and Housing Fund, £10m private funding / £3.2m local growth fund. Promoter Leicestershire County Council.
• M27 junction 9 Whiteley Way, up to 3,500 homes –  £9.9m Growth and Housing Fund, £3m Highways England Congestion Relief Fund. Promoter Hampshire County Council.

Highways England’s Growth and Housing Fund has so far made contributions of over  £60m to 16 improvements to unlock over 30,000 new homes around Swindon, Exeter, Weston Super Mare, Darlington, Scunthorpe, Grantham, Warrington, Honiton, Derby, Foxdenton (Oldham), Taunton, Durham, Daventry, Leicester and Southampton.
