Six contractors win places on £750m North East universities deal

Six firms have secured places on a £750m framework to deliver building projects for universities across the North East.

The deal runs for six years and the winning firms are:

• Clugston Construction
• Sir Robert McAlpine
• BAM Construction Limited
• Bowmer & Kirkland
• Galliford Try
• Robertson

The North East Universities Major Capital Projects Framework which will be used by five of the region’s leading higher eduction institutions at Newcastle, Durham, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside Universities.

The first project awarded under the framework for construction and fit-out of Newcastle University Sports Centre, will be delivered by Clugston and is due to start on site in January 2018.

The £17m centre, on the Richardson Road site, will provide new modern sports halls, courts, running tracks and gymnasiums for Newcastle University students.
