McAleer & Rushe to build Brum student tower

Contractor McAleer & Rushe has been lined up to deliver a high-rise student accommodation scheme next to Birmingham’s city council offices on the edde of the historic Gun Quarter.

The Lancaster Circus student housing scheme will consist of three blocks rising from 9 to 24 storeys and provide 0ver 1,000 beds in a mix of studios and clusters of 5-7 rooms.

Consultant WSP has just submitted the plans to redevelop the car park site for joint venture developer Lench Trustand ES Lancaster Birmingham.

Designs by architect Urban Innovations will see the lower 9 storey-building clad in brick with the other two towers clad in a mix of dark grey and black metal panelled facade that help to disguise the location of the windows.

Work is expected to start early next summer on the 26-month project.
