Firms scrambled for £100m RAF runway expansion

Contractors are being called up to bid for the expansion of RAF Lossiemouth in North East Scotland for the arrival of Typhoon Front Line Squadron and Boeing Poseidon P-8 new maritime patrol aircraft.

The project at the Moray airbase includes resurfacing and extending existing runways and taxiways as well as building new aircraft standing areas and has been estimated to cost anywhere from £50m-£100m.

It follows on from a £24m project to upgrade building  facilities at the Scottish base delivered by contractors Turners and Balfour Beatty two years ago.

Consultant WYG is projet manager for the Lossiemouth Development Programme.

The successful contractor will be required to maintain the operational readiness of the station at all times during planning and construction with all  staff needed to be security cleared by MoD prior to the commencement of the works on site.
