Tottenham Hotspur said it is “hugely frustrated” at the late notice from Mace over problems which have delayed the opening of the club’s new stadium.
Both Spurs and the contractor have also declined to comment on who is liable for extra costs as the £800m project overruns.
The club received a report from Mace on Monday highlighting issues with critical safety systems.
In a mesage to frustrated fans Tottenham said: “Delays are common, certainly for builds of this size and complexity, however we are hugely frustrated that this has occurred with these systems at such a late stage.
“Whilst we would have been able to mitigate other areas, we simply cannot compromise safety.
“This decision was unavoidable.
“Our construction team is working hard to overcome these issues and we shall keep you all updated.
“Thank you for your support at this challenging time.”
Correction
The Qatari glazed roof manufacturer completed manufacture of all roof units for the Spurs stadium in June 2018. The Enquirer would like to apologise for any incorrect inference in yesterday’s story that the glazed roofing units had anything to do with the delayed opening date.
