Interserve has started a £17m contract to deliver the construction phase of the improvements of obstetric and neonatal facilities at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.
Awarded through the Designed for Life 2 Framework, the project involves refurbishing existing buildings, together with a new two-storey extension. Work will be carried out in multiple phases.
This second phase of redevelopment will increase the capacity of the facilities at the hospital and will include high-dependency and special-care cots and parent overnight stay rooms, as well as increasing the number of birthing rooms, operating theatres and resuscitation bays. Plans are also in place for an additional 45 car parking spaces.
Carl Read, divisional director at Interserve, said: “This is excellent news and continues our success on the Designed for Life Frameworks and also building on the good relationship we have with Hywel Dda University Health Board.”
