Kier crowned 2018 contracts league champion

Kier secured the biggest annual haul of contract wins last year despite experiencing mounting debt problems.

The firm romped away with pole position in the annual contracts league after securing just over £3bn worth of projects in 2018, well ahead of secondplaced Wates on around £2bn and Morgan Sindall in third position with £1.7bn.

It is the third time in five years that Kier has topped the league of project wins, according to data collected by information specialist Glenigan.

The Top 10 firms saw their share of new orders secured by the 100 most successful contractors slip from around 43% in 2017 to 40% this year.

Overall the total haul of work shared by these 100 firms fell 20% to £37bn compared with 2017.
