Problem contract sends facade specialist into administration

Facade and shopfront specialists Drawn Metal Limited and DML Architectural Systems Limited have fallen into administration.

The Leeds based firms have been trading for more than 90 years and worked with all the major contractors.

But problems on an out of town contract have put 70 jobs at risk as the company is now being run by administrators from Begbies Traynor.

The specialist has worked form firms including Laing O’Rourke, Kier and Balfour Beatty and on projects such as Trinity Leeds, the Scottish Parliament Building, Victoria Gate, Leeds and the O2 Arena.

Drawn Metal provides bespoke facades and shopfronts; and DML Architectural Systems specialises in external facades, unitised, curtain walling, windows, brise soleil, louvres and cladding.

Last year the two companies had a combined turnover of £8.7m.

Drawn Metal employs 70 staff at its manufacturing facilities in Swinnow Lane, Bramley.

Drawn Metal Holdings Limited, an associated company, is not in administration.

‎Joint administrator Nick Reed said: “Having traded since 1924, DML has become known as a leading name in facades, particularly for the retail sector, but, unfortunately, losses on a significant out of town contract has resulted in the directors appointing administrators.

“We are in the process of assessing the situation in order to achieve the best possible outcome for creditors and the 70 strong workforce.

“The companies have an excellent reputation and we are seeking interest in the business and assets.”
