The Government has started the search for up to five contractors to tender the £650m Northern Estate Programme to upgrade MPs offices.
The project is likely to take three to four years and is being scheduled to start in 2018/19.
Under present plans the winning bidder will sign a pre-construction management deal initially to work alongside architect BDP, engineer Aecom and programme, project and cost managers WSP and Gleeds.
In recent years Kier, Sir Robert McAlpine, Wates and Willmott Dixon have already secured work on the wider Parliamentary Estate.
The Northern Estate Programme will restore and protect listed buildings around Portculis House that are home to around 1,000 MPs and their staff.

- 1 Derby Gate,
- Canon Row residences,
- 1 Parliament Street and
- Other decant buildings as required and potentially certain early elements of the Palace of Westminster Restoration and Renewal Programme.
It has been over 40 years since the buildings were properly refurbished.
The building revamp is expected to attract significant interest as the project will be seen as a dress rehersal for the £7bn structural rescue of the Palace of Westminster presently under consideration.
The buildings are being refurbished due largely to the age and fragility of the buildings’ mechanical and electrical services, poor environmental performance and fire safety improvement requirements.
Parliament aims to reduce carbon emissions by 34% by 2020/21 and to reduce water consumption by 50% over the same period.
Interested firms have until 14 March to submit prequalification documents. A memorandum of information and selection questionnaire is available here.
