Go-ahead for London Ted Baker HQ scheme

Developer Reef Estates has gain full planning for a 900,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme next to Argent’s King’s Cross redevelopment in North London.

The project will see a former Royal Mail building, known as the ‘Ugly Brown Building’ by tenants, demolished to make way for six new buildings along the Regent’s Canal.

Reef has partnered with British Airways Pension Fund and Ted Baker which own the three separate freeholds on the triangular site.

At the centre of the scheme will be a new headquarters building for retailer Ted Baker. There will also be over 70 flats, a gym and hotel in the proposed scheme designed.

New scheme will consist of six blocks with the tallest rising to 12-floors

Under the present plan demolition of the existing building will be phased to allow the retailer temporarily to move to a new block while its new office for over 1,000 staff is built in phase two.

The buildings designed by Bennetts Associates will be largely brick envelope mirroring similar new blocks along the nearby stretch of the Regents Canalin King’s Cross.

Structural and civil engineering has been carried out by GD Partnership with Max Fordham on board a building services engineer and Gardiner & Theobald the cost consultant.
