Simons Group raids McLaren for warehouse expert

Simons Group has appointed Rob O’Brien as a new Sector Director within its construction business to lead the logistics division.

O’Brien will join from McLaren Construction where he was Operations Director .

He will join Simons in September.

Tom Robinson, Simons’ Chief Executive, said: “Rob brings a wealth of experience to Simons, particularly his knowledge of distribution and logistics projects.

“We’re looking forward to September when he’ll join the team and help drive further successes within this important sector.”

O’Brien was originally trained as a civil engineer working on road, rail and tunnelling projects with Balfour Beatty and Hochtief.

His building experience was then developed with contractors including Buckingham, where he led projects including the construction of the Stadium MK, Milton Keynes and the London 2012 Olympics Handball Arena.

Prior to joining McLaren, he spent more than four years in Australia, working on major schemes such as Elizabeth Quay in Perth.

O’Brien said: “I am very excited to be joining Simons Group who have a long successful history, an enviable reputation and a clear strategy for sustained growth.

“I share the group’s vision and look forward to leading Simons Construction in the Logistics Sector to further success, whilst maintaining commitment to our customers and strengthening the relationship with our supply chain.”
