Outline approval for £50m Skelton motorway services

Leeds City Council has granted outline planning for a £50m Motorway Service Area at Junction 45 of the M1.

The new ‘concept’ Motorway Service Area will sustain around 400 jobs during construction and could be opened in 2019 after a two-year construction programme.

To be named Leeds Skelton Lake Services, the project has been designed with a timber framed facilities building, over which sections of wooden panelling and green living roof will look to tie the design into the local landscape.

Developer Extra MSA Group recently developed two of the largest and busiest new MSAs on the Strategic Road Network at Cobham (M25 J9-J10) and Beaconsfield (M40 J2).

Extra’s latest proposals include a new food court style facilities building which will provide a wide range of food and ancillary retail outlets, together with there being a business centre, filling station and 100-bed hotel.
