Ringway Infrastructure Services has bagged a £270m contract as part of Highways England’s new delivery arrangements in the South West.
Under the new-style asset delivery contract programme, Highways England will now take direct responsibility for managing both routine maintenance and the delivery of capital renewal and improvement schemes.
The Ringway maintenance and response contract will run for up to 15 years and focusses on cyclical and incident maintenance and response across the South West major road network.
Duties will include severe weather service, incident response and acting as principal contractor under CDM regulations.
This is the largest of a number of asset delivery contracts in the region and will sit alongside the recently-awarded design services contract – awarded to Kier Highways in February. New partners will be named in April for delivery of construction works.
Highways England will now begin working with Ringway to ensure that they are ready to begin delivering key Maintenance and Response services from 1 July 2017.
David Poole, Executive Director for commercial and procurement at Highways England, said: “This contract not only builds on the new way of working already taking place in the East Midlands and North of England but also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to increasing Highways England’s capability and control over the whole road network.
