Outline planning permission has been granted for the University of Bristol’s £300m Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.
The university plans to transform a seven-acre site next to Bristol Temple Meads railway station building modern education and research facilities.
Construction work is scheduled to get underway in early 2019 allowing the campus to open in time for the start of the 2021/22 academic year.
Seven new buildings will transform the former Royal Mail sorting office and part of Arena Island, providing a mix of flexible research and teaching facilities, accommodation for up to 1,500 students and a range of commercial outlets.
New campus will provide teaching space for 800 staff and 3,000 students, with up to 1,500-bed accommodation on site
The University has revised its initial proposals following feedback from Bristol City Council, local residents and other partners.
The main changes include reducing the height and changing the layout of the proposed student accommodation buildings on Arena Island, which range from 12 to 21 storeys, as well as altering the layout of buildings on the Cattle Market Road site.
The main academic building will create a ‘gateway’ to Bristol Temple Meads railway station and an iconic venue in the heart of the city for the University.
