Chelsea football club have boosted the number of wheelchair suitable spectator locations at Stamford Bridge by more than 200.
The upgrade work was completed during the summer with a major component being resurfacing the Lower West Stand as a step free area.
Several paving options were considered and Chelsea’s Special Projects Manager Terry White chose to use Ebema Rockstone 600x600x60mm paving on Buzon DPH5 height adjustable pedestals.
The new paving was supplied and installed by UK company Alfresco Floors.
Alfresco Marketing Director Chris Short said: “Ebema have been manufacturing premium product concrete pavers for around 75 years now, so once we found them as a supplier for Alfresco Floors we never looked anywhere else.
“However, the thing that really appealed to us is that Ebema completely understand that it’s not just about manufacturing quality. Most people who use our outdoor floors never think twice about how they are made and installed – they just want paving that looks great, wears well and feels rock solid. That’s what we get from Ebema.
“As it turned out the Ebema pavers on Buzon pedestals proved to be the perfect system for this project.
“The anti-slip Rockstone surface is ideal for this environment and at 60mm thick you need less pedestals to support it than the 50mm alternatives.
“The dimensions of the Ebema pavers are accurate to within 1mm of each other, so they slot onto the Buzon pedestals really precisely, and really quickly – it would have been impossible to match this installation speed with stone or less exactingly manufactured pavers.”
