Cleveland Bridge delivers third year of profits

Darlington-based steelwork contractor Cleveland Bridge UK has delivered a third year of profits after a major business restructure in the wake of five years of losses.

Sales in 2017 rose by 12% to £51m with pre-tax profit slightly down on 2016 at £3.3m.
As a result of the sustained profitable trading since 2015, Cleveland has built a positive balance sheet position for the first time since 2012, a significant milestone as it looks to continue this growth in the coming years.
During the year the specialist has secured a number of UK and international projects for 2018 and beyond, which will further underpin business growth.

The business has also strengthened its operations for further expansion with the appointment of an experienced factory manager. With over 20 years’ experience in the industry, new factory manager Richard Parker will oversee and further develop Cleveland Bridge UK’s continuous improvement culture to enhance safety and quality as part of the company’s drive to further increase productivity.

Prior to joining Cleveland, he was a general manager within Severfield where he was responsible for all aspects of production.

He will be supported in driving productivity by Colin Abbott, who has been promoted to Deputy Factory Manager. An experienced manufacturing professional, Colin takes up the new position after 44 years with the company.

Chris Droogan, Managing Director of Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd, said “The sustained efforts of our talented, skilled and dedicated workforce and the support of our group has enabled the business to continue to grow.”
