ISG lands £22m Norwich homes complex

Developer Orbit has struck a deal with ISG to build the first of 437 homes at its St Anne’s Quarter development in Norwich city centre.

The £22m contract, which is set to begin in April, will see the delivery of 190 apartments over the next two years.

With the first apartments available for sale later this summer, when completed the St Anne’s Quarter development will offer 437 studio, one and two bedroom apartments and houses available through a mix of affordable and private rent, shared ownership and outright sale.

Maggie McCann, development director at Orbit, said: “The contract marks an important milestone in our £80m transformation of this city centre site, which previously stood empty for twenty years.”

Danny Blakeston, managing director of ISG’s Engineering Services business, said: “This latest win will build on a strong partnership with Orbit, transforming an underused site to deliver modern, high-quality mixed-tenure homes.”

Initial work on the site began in 2015 with a detailed archaeological excavation.

Elements of Norwich’s medieval St Augustine friary were uncovered, including historical pottery and coins, as well as parts of a timber jetty thought to have been used to bring Norman stone into Norwich for the construction of the city’s Castle and Cathedral.

Orbit is restoring the neighbouring historic Howard House, which belonged to the Duke of Norfolk in the 17th century, as part of the plans.
